We see them everywhere, and recognize them instantly, but unless we travel on them, or our travels are delayed by them, we rarely give them notice.Railroads are everywhere and nowhere, all at once.
They provide a conduit for our goods and for our loved ones, and symbolize the power and ever-present possibility of transit. It’s that very power that draws me to the tracks time and time again.
The railroad scene holds tremendous visual appeal to me; the clean lines, rough textures, criss-crosses and convergences all seem to suggest a dynamic of motion, even if the view in the camera frame is stationary.
